This is the fifth in a series of 7 themed puzzles in the Sacred Myths and Legends puzzle collection. All 7 puzzles can be solved as a 'standalone' without you having needed to have solved prior puzzles in the series. That isn't required, but each puzzle once solved does give clues to the solution of the subsequent puzzle in the series, leading up the seventh puzzle (to be released in early 2011 - Secrets of the Pyramid) which will incorporate elements from all the prior ones.
Since every puzzle in the collection has a special theme, such as DaVinci, Atlantis, or Arthurian legend, and so on, you'll find that the clues you get are on that theme. Sacred Myths and Legends is great for adventure-loving intellectuals who need to escape daily life for a while. Each package provides a very attractive, polished wood object which has to physically solved to reveal a secret scroll. The scroll then provides clues to a password; when the correct password is entered on the special Sacred Myths and Legends website an extra clue for the next puzzle is unlocked. Don't be fooled - the passwords are just as challenging as the puzzle itself and will give you a perplexing conundrum to keep you going long after you solve the physical puzzle itself.
This does not mean that the physical puzzle itself is easy, however. Most of them need a good amount of thought and effort to complete, even after you supposedly know what the solution is. Some have unbeliebavly complicated internal mechanisms to keep you seriously from the solution! Plus, there are no directions with these puzzles, it's up to you!
Pillars of Atlantis is puzzle #5 in the set and is extremely challenging. Solve it and you have a clue for the next puzzle (but is not required for it).
Finally, these puzzles look wonderful on a desktop or display shelf ...and house-guests are constantly intrigued by an excellent puzzle.
