Inside the box you have a playing board made of wood. This has a grid marked on it, 12 squares by 12. Included as well are 10 coloured blocks of assorted shapes and sizes, 5 for each player.
This is a three-dimensional abstract game involving large wooden pieces. The winner is the last person to play their piece on the board.
Inverse has only four rules -
1) You can't play a block in the same way your opponent has played it. For instance, one of the playing blocks in the box has dimensions 4 grid squares x 4 grid squares x 12 grid squares. There are only two ways to play this block on the board: you either stand it upright on its end or on its side. In the former case, it will occupy a 4 x 4 area of the board. On its side it will take up a 4 x 12 area. If your opponent plays this block the first way then you are forced to play your equivalent block the other way. But because you have only a 12 x 12 grid to work in, you could find you have an unplayable piece. So skill and stategy come into the game.
2) Blocks of the same colour can't touch on any edge. Therefore, if your opponent plays a blue block, no blue block you play can share an edge with your opponent's.
3) Likewise, blocks of the same height are not allowed to touch on any edge.
And finally, 4) Blocks can't be stacked. All blocks need to be placed on the 12 x 12 grid.
In those four simple rules, an easy yet elegant game is born and to be enjoyed
